Awards, Inspiration

Lost Around the World was just nominated for the Liebster Award, and I am feeling over the moon with this. After so much hard work, so much time trying to figure out how things work and how to reach more people, finally this blog gets recognition.

Last year I stayed at a hostel for the first time while backpacking Europe alone for three months. I had no idea what to expect, but if you take one or two really crappy hostels I stayed at, I fell in love with the hostel experience. I loved how I could stay in these amazing places for as little as 5€ and I would even wake up to breakfast right at the common area without having to take off my pajamas. I loved how it didn’t feel awkward to share a room with ten other people. I loved how I could just make a new friend by saying hello or good morning from my own bed.

I’ve never been the luckiest traveler out there, and the first time I backpacked alone was also the time I realized my travels would never be as easy as other travel bloggers paint it to be. During my travels, until last year, I had twisted ankles, lost buses and trains, gotten ripped-off, had my bank cancelling a card with all my money, had my credit card and ID stolen at a party hostel, had almost slept in the streets and so on. Life had not been easy. Still, this time around I thought maybe all the bad stuff happened because I was a newbie at the traveling thing. This time I knew what to expect and everything was going to be smooth, right? WRONG!

I just spent the night crying on my pillow, imagining the million things that could go wrong. I can’t stop shacking and telling me “flying is the safest mean of transportation” is not going to help me. No matter how many flights I take, being inside a giant heavy box, with no way out of it, with about 100 people I never met in my life, and thousands of feet of the ground, will never, ever, ever, feel normal and safe.

I’ve read pretty much everywhere that if you really want to travel you’ll make it happen, as it’s not as expensive as people actually think, which I believe is absolutely true! Still, I’m here to give you a reality check on how saving money depends on the country you live in and the money that gets in your account by the end of the month.

Last year I quit my job, bought a one way ticket to Rome and went backpacking Europe alone for three months. Before going everyone’s question was about whether I was scared and why I was doing it. After returning alive, for the surprise of many, the big question was “how much did you spend?”, to which my response would be the shock to all who were curious: 2000€

I’ve never been the kind of person who believes in fate and all that comes with it. I believe that each one of us make choices that leads us somewhere. I don’t think there’s someone who makes things happen for you. You decide your fate by a constant decision making process. Saying that, I may have changed my mind about this, while I backpacked Europe for 3 months alone. I’m still deciding whether life has a funny way of getting clues on your way, and that if you keep an open mind and your eyes open, these are the kind of things that will help you get what you want,or maybe life is just full of amazing coincides.

In 2015 I discovered that there’s nothing I love more than travel to new places and take as many adventures as I can across the globe. Still, no matter how much planning you take into it, travel likes to kick you in the butt sometimes, and things won’t always be as smooth as you predicted.

Here are my 15 worst moments of 2015.

You know that opinion you have about how travel is all sunshine and rainbows? That Wanderlust feeling you get when you see travelers photos or you read travel blogs? Well, I’m here to tell you that yes, travel is the best thing in the world you can do. There’s nothing that makes me happier than arriving in a new place, exploring every corner I possibly can and make memories all over the world one country at a time.
