Europe, Slovenia

I went back to Slovenia only to finally visit Lake Bled. I basically did the exact same route as last year, getting a bus from Florence all the way to Ljubljana, an 8h bus that is not that bad and time pretty much flies. Once I passed that boarder into Slovenia I had tears in my eyes. There’s something about this country that seems to bring me back to life, that seems to bring joy back into my life, and if just passing the boarder once made me happy, doing it the second time was even more emotional.

I just spent the night crying on my pillow, imagining the million things that could go wrong. I can’t stop shacking and telling me “flying is the safest mean of transportation” is not going to help me. No matter how many flights I take, being inside a giant heavy box, with no way out of it, with about 100 people I never met in my life, and thousands of feet of the ground, will never, ever, ever, feel normal and safe.

11029565_10203906386287749_8929217125857208476_n-1My plans for Bologna were a total mess from the start. I was in Florence already freaking out about not knowing where to go next. By the time I got to Venice I panicked and started to believe this solo travel thing just wasn’t for me and that I had to go home. Lucky for me, a friend of my (ex)boyfriend lived in Bologna and offered me a roof at his house. The catch? He was not in Bologna at the moment, so I would stay with his friends.

I arrived in Granada after a long bus ride from Madrid. As usual I was lost and had to ask for directions to the city center as the map on my phone was showing me I was way too far from the center to walk. Bad news I had to catch two buses to get there. Good news, it was cheap and didn’t take that long anyway.

Last year I quit my job, bought a one way ticket to Rome and went backpacking Europe alone for three months. Before going everyone’s question was about whether I was scared and why I was doing it. After returning alive, for the surprise of many, the big question was “how much did you spend?”, to which my response would be the shock to all who were curious: 2000€

I’ve never been the kind of person who believes in fate and all that comes with it. I believe that each one of us make choices that leads us somewhere. I don’t think there’s someone who makes things happen for you. You decide your fate by a constant decision making process. Saying that, I may have changed my mind about this, while I backpacked Europe for 3 months alone. I’m still deciding whether life has a funny way of getting clues on your way, and that if you keep an open mind and your eyes open, these are the kind of things that will help you get what you want,or maybe life is just full of amazing coincides.

In 2015 I discovered that there’s nothing I love more than travel to new places and take as many adventures as I can across the globe. Still, no matter how much planning you take into it, travel likes to kick you in the butt sometimes, and things won’t always be as smooth as you predicted.

Here are my 15 worst moments of 2015.

I arrived in Granada feeling totally lost. I checked my GPS and found that the city center was pretty far away. I walked to an information point, got major help from the lady there who thank God spoke English, and she says I have to catch two other buses (after having done a 5h drive from Madrid). She’s amazed by my English without any Portuguese accent, and she asks if she can give me some tips on what to do in Granada.

Everybody says the same about Naples: a very dangerous city!
Now, before I even start to tell you about my experience in Naples, I want to tell you the conversation I had while I was still in Rome, with a man at my hostel who was from this scary city:
